Hackthorn Church Of England Primary School

A small school with a BIG heart.

Music

Music Vision and Intent

Music provision at Hackthorn CE Primary school aims to give all our children the knowledge and understanding of composition, techniques, performances and musical vocabulary to develop their musicality so that they can freely and confidently express themselves in music. We give our children the opportunity to make more music, think more musically and subsequently become more musical. We hope that our children are inspired by music and also inspired to share their musicality with our community, and thus uniting us around a shared love for music. In turn, we intend to develop their talents as musicians and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Music Curriculum

We use the Kapow scheme of work and follow the mixed-age planning document provided. We also supplement this with whole class instrumental tuition from Lincolnshire Music Service, where KS2 learn Ukulele and lots of singing through Collective Worship and across the curriculum.

This document, gives an idea of the units taught and the content of these.

Instrumental Music Lessons

From June 2025, we are pleased to offer woodwind lessons (flute, clarinet and saxophone) to our pupils. Children can have individual or shared lessons and can also hire their instrument, meaning that families do not have to purchase these in order for the children to participate in lessons. For more information, please speak with Mrs Lister.

These lessons can be booked for your child through the following link: Registration - Lincolnshire Music Service
